Sweet little Emily was born with Down Syndrome and a large hole at the center of her heart. She is just one year old and she underwent her first open-heart surgery at only 3 months old. After many failed attempts to recovery, Emily underwent a second open-heart surgery only 8 weeks later. She spent 95 days in the ICU, largely depending on a form of life support to survive. Emily’s road to recovery has a long way to go. She undergoes extensive therapies weekly due to her trisomy 21 diagnosis, cardiology appointments frequently, and relies 100% on tubal feedings. Her heart and lungs are still not fully functioning and there are surgeries in her future. She remains a strong baby girl and will fight through anything thrown her way.
